TROGEMAL Workshop: Tropical Geometry and Machine Learning

On September 19, 2025, the TROGEMAL – Tropical Geometry and Machine Learning workshop was held at the Multimedia Hall of the Central Building at NTUA Campus in Zografou, Athens.

Professor Petros Maragos, Director of HERON, opened the event with a keynote lecture. He presented the scope of tropical geometry and its intersections with the fields of machine learning and computer vision, highlighting its potential applications in Artificial Intelligence and linking these directions to the activities of the HERON Robotics Center of Excellence.

His presentation was followed by Professor Ioannis Emiris, General Director of Athena Research Center, who outlined advances in geometric  combinatorics & algebraic system solving and their connections with tropical geometry.

The workshop included a wide range of advanced scientific works by researchers and collaborators from NTUA, HERON, and Athena RC:

each presenting their latest research in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Robotics.

The event highlighted the role of tropical geometry as a promising mathematical and computational new framework for addressing challenges in machine learning, computer vision and AI.
