Educational visit to the 6th elementary school of Vrilissia

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the 6th grade students of the 6th Primary School of Vrilissia attended an interesting presentation by Dr. Niki Efthymiou, researcher at HERON and the Robotics Institute (Research Center “Athena”), together with Ms. Eleni Sotiropoulou, coordinator of the action and events manager of the Communication Department (Research Center “Athena”). Through this initiative, the children met our research work and were informed about modern developments in robotics and artificial intelligence. During the meeting, a fruitful dialogue developed, with the students reflecting on the differences between human and artificial intelligence, raising questions that surprised us with their insight. At the same time, special emphasis was placed on the need for more women to participate in the field of research.

The visit concluded with the children’s contact with a real robot that specializes in “expressing emotions”. This contact was the occasion for a broader discussion about the different types of robots and their applications, while the process by which robots “learn” and how research contributes to the continuous improvement of their perceptual abilities were analyzed in a simple way.
