HERON School Visit to Kalymnos

HERON, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kalymnos, successfully concluded a two-day educational event on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in Kalymnos, held on October 29–30, 2025.

The initiative, hosted at the 1st Nikiforeio High School of Kalymnos, aimed to bring cutting-edge technology closer to young students, fostering their curiosity for science, innovation, and the future.

It was a particularly special occasion for Professor Petros Maragos, Director of the HERON Center of Excellence, who returned to his home island  to address local students. He was accompanied by Dr. Niki Efthymiou and Eleni Bei-Sofouli, members of the HERON team.

High school students from various schools across Kalymnos had the opportunity to get to know HERON, its vision and educational goals, to interact with the team, and to ask questions about robotics, artificial intelligence, and the technologies shaping the future. We are very pleased that the participation surpassed our expectations, and this strong engagement encourages us to organize similar events again in the future.

The presentations and discussions highlighted how robotics and AI can serve the common good, in areas such as health, safety, agriculture, shipping, and space , while encouraging the next generation to imagine, innovate, and create.

HERON and the Municipality of Kalymnos extend their warm thanks to all students, school principals, educators, and local partners who contributed to the success of this inspiring initiative.
