HERON’s1st Workshop on Surgical & Interventional Robotics

Heron is proud to announce the successful launch of its 1st Workshop on Surgical & Interventional Robotics.

This inaugural workshop was held on July 11th at the campus of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and envisions to establish the foundation for an annual forum advancing partnerships and synergies within the HERON ecosystem. The event aims to foster strategic collaborations and drive impactful research innovation in surgical and interventional robotics.

The Workshop was organized by Costas Tzafestas – Associate Professor at NTUA and Adjunct Researcher at ATHENA RC, George Moustris- Senior Researcher at ATHENA RC and Panagiotis Vartholomeos– Assistant Professor at University of Thessaly and Adjunct Researcher at ATHENA RC. This event advanced focused scientific discourse enabling the sharing of practical insights to the forefront of the HERON initiative. It fostered a radiant environment for knowledge exchange and strategic alignment of a collective vision toward the future of Robotics in Healthcare.

The Surgical & Interventional Robotics Workshop featured insightful presentations by a distinguished group of invited speakers as follows:

  1. Darwin Caldwell, Founding Director of Italian Institute of Technology (IIT)
  2. Leonardo Mattos, Head of Biomedical Robotics Laboratory at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT)
  3. Evangelos Mazomenos, Associate Professor of Medical Robotics & AI at the University College London (UCL)
  4. Christos Bergeles, Robotics & Vision in Medicine (RVIM) Professor and Team Leader at the King’s College London (KCL), who joined remotely.

The Director and Scientific Coordinator of HERON Prof. Petros Maragos, addressed a welcome note to the audience, presenting the vision of HERON and the three sectors of Robotics that HERON will activate.

The scientific presentations were followed by fruitful discussions, laying the groundwork for further collaborations.

This surgical AI workshop marked an important starting point, aspiring to create a space where expertise serves purpose.
