Workshop with CAMART2 CoE

Workshop with CAMART2 CoE – HERON Robotics Center Of Excellence

On January 24, 2025 the emerging Hellenic Robotics Center of Excellence (HERON), in collaboration with the Robotics Institute of the ATHENA Research Center (Athena RC) hosted a successful visit by and workshop with the CAMART2 Center of Excellence (CAMART2) represented by its Project Manager Andris Ozolins. CAMART2 is a successful CoE in advanced materials and technologies based in Latvia which has recently completed the 6-year cycle of establishing a CoE through a European Teaming project.

The workshop, which took place at the Athena RC premises, signifies the commitment of the HERON CoE to foster international collaboration and knowledge exchange especially within the scientific community of European Centers of Excellence. A large group of researchers from HERON and the Athena Robotics Institute, in the presence of the General Director of Athena RC Prof. Ioannis Emiris, and members of the HERON CoE, headed by Professors Petros Maragos and Evangelos Papadopoulos, participated in the meeting.

During the workshop, the two parties exchanged views on their respective missions, strategies and research objectives as centers of excellence and explored possible ways of cooperation. The topics of discussion during the one-day meeting ranged from the legal forms of centers of excellence and their organizational structure, the support of excellence in research and innovation, to the services provided to industry that can contribute to their sustainability.

The evolution of the successful CAMART2 CoE is a case of good practice that HERON can emulate in the early stages of its development. The HERON CoE is committed to strengthening collaborations with established centers of excellence such as CAMART2, with the common goal of promoting scientific research and innovation worldwide, while ensuring its sustainability.
