Sponsorship and Participation in the GREEKs in AI Symposium

HERON is proud to have been a Sponsor of the 2025 Greeks in AI Symposium, a first-class international event that brings together Greek AI scientists and practitioners from around the world to connect, collaborate, and inspire. Held on 19-20 July 2025 at Serafeio in Athens, Greece, the symposium served as a platform for sharing scientific research and building a dynamic community based on Robotics, AI and innovation.

The Director and Scientific Coordinator of HERON Prof. Petros Maragos was honored to be among the keynote speakers featuring “Robot Perception and Multimodal AI” in his keynote talk. He presented a synopsis of some ongoing research projects and introduced the vision and mission of HERON, based on world-class research, industry collaboration and talent development.

HERON aspires to constitute a national hub for innovation, connecting researchers, technology leaders and entrepreneurs to place Greece at the forefront of Robotics and AI. To this end, HERON will pursuit Research & Development in 3 main sectors; Health & Social Robotics, Field & Space Robotics, and Safety & Security Robotics.

HERON was proudly represented with the strong participation of several researchers actively contributing to the HERON project, who presented their innovative work in Robotics Technologies and Artificial Intelligence. Their presentations covered various areas of the Robotics and AI domain, highlighting HERON’s continued commitment to advancing the sector through innovative research and future-oriented solutions.

There were 13 poster presentations  by the following researchers affiliated  with HERON and the Robotics Institute of Athena Research Center: Niki Efthimiou, Panagiotis Filntisis, Konstantinos Fotopoulos, Christos Garoufis, Orestis Konstantaropoulos, Argyris Manetas, Athanasios Mastrogeorgiou, Katerina Papadimitriou, Katerina Smyrli,  Konstantinos Spathis, Davyd Svyezhentsev, Alexandros Dimitriadis, and Styianos Zarifis.

Demonstrating research excellence, there were three researchers who were selected to deliver spotlight presentations at the symposium: Katerina Papadimitriou for research in “Multimodal Continuous Fingerspelling Recognition via Visual Alignment LearningOrestis Konstantaropoulos for “Push, See, Predict: Emergent perception through Intrinsically Motivated Play”, and  Davyd Svyezhentsev for Pre-Training For Action Recognition With Automatically Generated Fractal Datasets . They were invited to deliver brief public talks at the symposium podium, a distinction given to selected participants whose work stood out among the submissions.

Through interactive discussions and active engagement in all activities of the Greeks in AI Symposium, HERON’s executives, collaborators and researchers connected with the global & Greek AI community, exchanging knowledge and exploring emerging trends shaping the future of AI and Robotics.
