Hellenic Robotics Competition – FIRST® LEGO® League Greece – Thessaloniki

Bringing together research, innovation and education, the Robotics Institute of Athena Research Center (Athena RC) and the European Center of Excellence in Robotics – HERON teamed up for participating in the National Hellenic Robotics Competition – FIRST® LEGO® League Greece held on 8-9 March 2025 at (TIF) -Thessaloniki International Fair.

Mr. Gabriel Ioannidis, student at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a junior researcher at Robotics Institute – Athena RC, was the representative of the joint participation of Athena RC and HERON, presenting the social robot ROBOBO. The competition was intense, with various teams across Greece showcasing their skills in building and programming autonomous robots while demonstrating innovative solutions to issues concerning the Seas and Oceans.

Numerous parents, coaches and visitors were introduced to the vision and mission of Athena RC and HERON, as well as to the fields of Service Robotics they aim to advance. The students had the chance to have a hands-on experience interacting with social robot ROBOBO, broadening their horizons and establishing a strong foundation between their creative engagement with robotics and their future professional careers.

The stand with the social robot ROBOBO was placed right next to the Technology and Science Teams of AUTH (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), highlighting the academic community’s commitment to supporting the next generation of scientists and inspiring them to expand the frontiers of innovation.

The competition FIRST® LEGO® League Greece was attended by prominent members of the Greek Government and political leaders of local authorities.
